Haha, do I say "yay" for a lot of things?

Things have been super busy, and it's getting more and more stressful, which is why I haven't updated this in quite sometime now...

But I wanted to make my URL available where I am beginning to post my sketches/artwork: www.smrithi.hitart.com

Hope you all enjoy!

yay for music! (and for tablas)

So for those of you who know me even a little bit, know that I'm obsessed with music and cannot live without it. And for those of you who know me just a little better, know that I LOVE percussion, especially Indian classical percussion music. It's really just something else. Well anyways, without getting side-tracked, let me get to the point I wanted to write about. Well as you all know, I've decided to go all out with my writing, and in the process, am writing a book which is set to become a movie in the future.

Although music has somewhat been set, there was that final piece that was missing: percussion. We have some basic English songs, as well as some South Indian tunes, but we wanted to venture into something that hasn't been explored as much also, and test out some fusionistic tunes. And for that, we needed a tabla player.

Well, I set out to look for someone. I posted a request in a forum on yahoo! and within one hour, had emails pouring in, one after another, from tablaists who were interested. I have to say, there are quite a few very very talented people out there. But I stumbled across one woman who really caught my attention from the start. She had been trained right off the bat by world-famous tablaist Zakir Hussain and his father. She worked with big time artists like singer Norah Jones for her last album. People such as writer Salman Rusdie and model/actress Padma Lakshmi admired her. Who is she? Her name is Suphala. They call her the female answer to Talvin Singh (amazing tablaist who is a main experimenter with fusionistic music.) The most exciting part of all of this, is that she has agreed to help with the movie; she will be composing some fusion music for us, as well as playing tabla for the soundtrack! It's so exciting!!!! Feel free to check her out at www.suphala.com just to see how amazing this woman actually is. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Well, that's all for now. Back to work!!!

Sometimes...

Sometimes, you have to do things that you just don't want to do, whatever the reason might be. Sometimes, no matter how hard it is, you have to accept it as the right thing to do. Sometimes, it will go against everything by which you stand strongly for, such as the sacredness of trust and friendship. But sometimes, it has to be done, to prevent a bad situation from becoming even worse. Perhaps, one day in the future, you will feel better about what you did, and realize that even if you had to sacrifice something in the process of doing something you had to do but didn't want to, you did the only right thing to do at the time. Sometimes, you make the hardest decisions in life...but almost always...they will be the best decisions you ever made...

:: by the way, I've changed the settings so anyone (even those who do not have a blog or are registered) can comment on posts...so please feel free to ::

Radha and Krishna...my drawings

For those of you who may be interested, two nights ago, I had an inspiration to draw Radha and Krishna. For those who don't know these prominent Hindu figures, Krishna is one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu, one of the three main Gods in Hinduism. Radha, is his most popular female companion. The first picture you see, is a pencil sketch, and the second, is the same picture with some color added to it. The second picture also has some writing in Tamil, my mothertongue. On the top, I've written "Radha" and just below the drawing, I've written "Krishna". The smaller lettering you see is my name signed in Tamil. Enjoy!

Life...

I thought of an interesting analogy today...life is like a kaleidoscope, filled with interesting shapes and all shades of different colors. Just like a kaleidoscope, it's full of complicated patterns and ever-changing displays of beauty. Sometimes, the patterns are very simple and obvious. Other times, you can't understand the logic behind them.

Each time you turn, and each decision you make, a new perspective is revealed, and you learn something new about not only yourself, but also about the people you are involved with, whether they are the people closest to you, or mere acquaintances.

Embrace life and know that it is going to change all the time before you can even blink, but realize that although you may not be able to bring yourself to believe it's still beautiful, it really is, in it's own way. And you'll realize that whatever happens, is for the best. Every single experience is needed to make up your life. After all, every color is needed to make a complete rainbow.
